As a design researcher, I aim to develop design theories and generate research evidence that is both normative and analytical. This is because the design process is creative, while research evidence implementation is analytical. Thus, to have a meaningful impact on healthcare design practice and contribute to creating healthy environments and improving human well-being, design research needs to focus on theory development and research evidence implementation in healthcare design practice.
This is one of the crucial topics addressed in my recently published book “Environment-behavior Studies for Healthcare Design ”. The book is a call to action that design researchers need to develop theories that have both normative and analytical characteristics for healthcare design.
Furthermore, this book is written by diving deeply into a set of environment-behavior (EB) theories and offering thorough explanations of numerous EB theories. It explains how environment-behavior studies can contribute to healthcare design and evidence-based design (EBD). As a significant outcome of my research, a redefined design process model incorporating EBD is articulated based on research findings. This book also makes a direct connection to how environment-behavior studies theories, frameworks, and research methods can be leveraged in healthcare design.
