Connecting Environment and Human Behavior in Healthcare Settings

Updated: Jun 21

It was a wonderful experience to share my research at the Environmental Design and Research Association (EDRA) 56 conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, May 27-30, 2025. The conference's theme this year is “Designing Communities for Climate Action and Resilience."

I was delighted to present two of my research projects. The first presentation focuses on evidence-based design and environmental-behavior studies for senior living facility design, while the second presentation explores the scholarship of teaching and learning, specifically service-learning. I thoroughly enjoyed the scholarly energy at the conference.

Central to my work is the connection between the environment and human behavior in healthcare settings. My presentations addressed the following topics:

  • Synthesizing Environment‐Behavior Studies: Theoretical Groundwork and Research Evidence for Senior Living Facility Design

  • Designing Physical Therapy Office Interiors: Research Integrated into Service-Learning Capstone Project

Being able to speak and share about my research and connect with colleagues and friends has always been delightful and refreshing. I also enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere and the scenic views of the waterfront in Halifax, which made the experience even more memorable. The combination of intellectual engagement and the beauty of the natural environment created a perfect balance that left me feeling inspired and rejuvenated.
